Dr. Anthony “Tony” McCrovitz, Ph.D, LMHC, HSPP, BCPC, IMH-E® (II), DAPA

Dr. Anthony “Tony” McCrovitz is a licensed psychologist and mental health counselor with more than 30 years of experience walking alongside children, adolescents, adults, and families. His clinical work has particularly focused on individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual and developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental differences, and complex emotional, behavioral, relational, and sensory needs. Dr. Tony provides psychological and diagnostic assessment, autism evaluation, individual and family therapy, behavioral consultation, and person-centered planning and support. While assessment and diagnosis can provide important information, he believes they should never become the definition of a person. His work seeks to understand the whole person their strengths, relationships, communication, sensory experiences, emotional needs, hopes, interests, and opportunities to experience a meaningful quality of life. At the heart of Dr. Tony’s approach is Gentle Teaching, a relationship-based philosophy centered on creating experiences in which people come to feel safe, loved, loving, and engaged. Rather than beginning from a perspective of deficits or asking only what needs to be corrected, his work is healing-centered, focusing on the relationships, environments, experiences, and sense of belonging that help people discover their strengths, develop greater agency, and experience meaningful connection with others. His areas of interest include autism and neurodevelopmental assessment, executive functioning, social-emotional development, sensory processing, multisensory environments, family relationships, quality of life, and healing-centered approaches to care. He is particularly interested in helping families move beyond simply understanding a diagnosis toward understanding the person and discovering practical ways of supporting connection, participation, choice, growth, and belonging in everyday life. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Tony is an educator, author, researcher, and international presenter. His work has explored Gentle Teaching, quality of life, multisensory environments, developmental relationships, and the creation of cultures of companionship and belonging for people with disabilities and the families and professionals who walk alongside them. Across his work, Dr. Tony returns to a simple belief: our work is not merely to change behavior or reduce symptoms, but to create meaningful moments in which people discover that they are safe, valued, capable of relationship, and that they belong.
