Many Wake Forest families start this journey after a flag from their pediatrician or concerns raised at one of the WCPSS schools in the area (Heritage Elementary, Wake Forest Elementary, or one of the local charter schools like Franklin Academy). Wake County Public School System can evaluate your child and provide classroom support through an IEP, but a school evaluation is not a medical diagnosis and won’t unlock insurance or Medicaid coverage for ABA therapy. And referrals to Duke or UNC for diagnostic evaluations often mean months-long waitlists.
Our evaluations are conducted by a licensed psychologist and give your family the documentation needed to access insurance-covered ABA, often faster than the hospital route. If you’ve already started through your pediatrician, WCPSS, or a referral elsewhere, we can pick up wherever that path left off.

North Carolina’s autism insurance mandate (SB 676) requires most state-regulated health plans to cover ABA therapy, and NC children under 3 with Medicaid can begin services without a formal diagnosis. For families on Medicaid, ABA is covered for children under 21 through the EPSDT benefit. In Wake County, Alliance Health is the regional Tailored Plan (LME/MCO) that manages Medicaid behavioral health services.
