Durham is one of the most research-driven communities in the country, and families here want care that turns recommendations into everyday progress. B Above Services delivers evidence-based ABA therapy and autism diagnostic evaluations in your child’s natural environment, at home, at school, and throughout the Durham community, turning research-backed recommendations into real-world progress.
Many Durham families receive an evaluation or recommendations and then need long-term, direct ABA therapy to put those recommendations into practice week after week. Getting to appointments isn’t always easy, especially if you’re in Woodcroft during school pickup or in Treyburn during rush hour on 147.
Our Natural Environment approach meets your family where you actually are. Therapy happens at home during the routines that matter most, at school where social skills need to work in real time, or in the community during everyday activities. Skills transfer because they’re built in the settings where your child actually uses them.
And because we coach parents alongside your child during real routines, the strategies keep working all week, not just during scheduled sessions.
We support the whole family through every stage of the journey:
Comprehensive evaluations for children and teens, guiding families from assessment to clear next steps without unnecessary delays.
Personalized ABA therapy delivered where your child lives and learns; at home, school, and in the community.
Supportive group sessions that build confidence and connection for children, with guidance and community for parents.
A free partnership with schools & families, offering developmental screenings, training, and trusted support when concerns arise.
Many Durham families start their autism journey after a pediatrician raises a concern, or after Durham Public Schools flags something through its Exceptional Children program.
DPS can evaluate your child and provide classroom accommodations through an IEP, but a school evaluation is not a medical diagnosis and won’t unlock insurance or Medicaid coverage for ABA therapy.
Our evaluations are conducted by a licensed psychologist and provide the formal documentation your family needs to access insurance-covered ABA. If you’ve already been through an evaluation elsewhere, we can pick up wherever that process left off. We work to schedule evaluations and start services as quickly as possible.
We bring in-home ABA therapy to families throughout Durham: from Trinity Park, Duke Park, and Old West Durham near campus, to Forest Hills and Hope Valley in the southwest, Woodcroft and the Southpoint corridor, northeast Durham and Ellis Crossing, and north to Treyburn and Croasdaile. We also serve neighboring Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Morrisville, and the RTP corridor. If you’re in Durham County or the surrounding Triangle, reach out, we’ll let you know how we can support your family.
North Carolina’s autism insurance mandate (SB 676) requires most state-regulated health plans to cover ABA therapy, and NC children under 3 with Medicaid can begin ABA services without a diagnosis. For families on Medicaid, ABA is covered for children under 21 through the EPSDT benefit. In Durham County, Alliance Health is the regional Tailored Plan (LME/MCO) that manages Medicaid behavioral health services, including ABA authorization. We help families understand their benefits and handle prior authorization from day one.

Our clinicians take the time to get to know your child’s strengths, needs, and full developmental profile.
We build a care plan tailored to your child’s needs and your family’s goals.
We provide continuous support and progress monitoring as your child grows toward the goals that matter most to your family.
B Above delivers ongoing ABA therapy that puts those recommendations into practice, with direct, in-home therapy supervised by a BCBA. With your permission, we’re happy to coordinate with your child’s existing care team so goals stay aligned.
We deliver all therapy in your child’s natural environment: at home, at school, or in the community. No commute across 147, and your child builds skills where they actually need them.
Many employer plans cover medically necessary ABA therapy for children with an autism diagnosis, but every plan is different. We verify your specific benefits during intake.
DPS evaluations through the Exceptional Children program can provide school-based support, but insurance-covered ABA therapy requires a formal medical diagnosis from a qualified professional. We can help you understand what’s still needed.
