ABA Therapy and Autism Services in Raleigh

The Triangle is one of the fastest-growing metros in the country, and demand for autism services has grown with it. But most ABA providers in Raleigh still operate from clinics that require families to fight I-540 traffic or rearrange their entire day around a therapy schedule. B Above Services takes a different approach: we deliver evidence-based ABA therapy and autism diagnostic evaluations in your child’s natural environment, at home, at school, and throughout the Raleigh community.

Why In-Home ABA Makes Sense for Raleigh Families

Between Research Triangle Park commutes, Wake County’s sprawl from North Hills to Holly Springs, and school schedules that vary by magnet track and year-round calendar, Raleigh families are already overextended. Adding multiple weekly clinic visits to the mix isn’t sustainable for most.

Our Natural Environment approach works with your family’s reality, not against it. Therapy happens in the places where your child actually needs to use their skills: at home during morning and evening routines, at school during transitions and social time, or out in the community during everyday activities. Skills transfer because they’re built in context, not practiced in isolation at a clinic and hoped to carry over.

And because our clinicians coach parents and caregivers in real time during real routines, the strategies keep working every day, not just during scheduled sessions.

Autism Diagnostic Evaluations in Raleigh

If you’re noticing signs, or your child’s pediatrician has raised concerns, getting a timely evaluation in the Triangle can be difficult. Waitlists at Duke, UNC, and even the Raleigh TEACCH Center can stretch months. Many families don’t realize they have other options.

Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) can evaluate your child and provide school-based support through an IEP, but a school evaluation is not a medical diagnosis and won’t unlock insurance or Medicaid coverage for ABA therapy. A formal autism diagnosis requires a qualified medical professional: a licensed physician, psychiatrist, or psychologist.

Our evaluations are conducted by a licensed psychologist and provide the documentation your family needs to access insurance-covered ABA, often faster than hospital-system waitlists. If you’ve already started the process through your pediatrician, WCPSS, or a referral to TEACCH, we can pick up wherever that path left off.

Serving Families Across Raleigh and Wake County

We bring in-home ABA therapy to families throughout the Raleigh metro: from Downtown and North Hills, to Brier Creek, Wakefield, and Falls River in North Raleigh, to Southeast Raleigh and Garner. We also serve the surrounding Wake County communities, including Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest, and Knightdale. If you’re in the Triangle, reach out, we’ll let you know how we can support your family.

Insurance & North Carolina Medicaid Coverage for ABA Therapy

North Carolina’s autism insurance mandate (SB 676) requires most state-regulated health plans to cover ABA therapy. For families on Medicaid, ABA is covered for children under 21 through the EPSDT benefit. In Wake County, Alliance Health is the regional Tailored Plan (LME/MCO) that manages Medicaid behavioral health services, including ABA authorization. Navigating Alliance’s process can be complex, so we help families understand their benefits and handle prior authorization from day one.

Potentially, yes. Triangle-area diagnostic waitlists can be very long. Our evaluations are conducted by a licensed psychologist and can often be scheduled faster. Contact us and we’ll walk you through timing.

WCPSS evaluations can qualify your child for school-based support through an IEP, but insurance-covered ABA therapy requires a formal medical diagnosis from a qualified professional. We can help you understand where you are in that process and what’s still needed.
